Personal AI agents are already real - I use one called Instinct. My bet: agents like this will be free. The money will follow the transaction, not the subscription.

It is already starting. OpenAI's Instant Checkout completes purchases inside ChatGPT, with merchants paying a fee per sale. Google's AP2 protocol is building payment rails for agent-driven transactions, with card networks and payment companies on board.

Search wrote the playbook: free for users, monetized at the moment of intent. Agents compress intent and action into one step, so the transaction itself becomes the monetization point.

Think about what that does to the funnel. Today a user searches, compares, abandons, gets retargeted, and finally buys - and someone pays for attention at every step. When an agent handles the journey, there is one moment that matters: the purchase. Whoever enables that moment earns from it.

My prediction: the winners will not have the best subscription tiers. They will master transaction-linked models - commissions on volume, take rates on commerce.

For anyone building or marketing products, the takeaway is to watch where the fee moves. Every time monetization has moved closer to the transaction, the businesses that adapted early took disproportionate share.
